HISTORY
Mr. Abdul Azim was a 19 year old male patient from India who suffered from Cerebral Palsy when he was admitted at Puhua International Hospital for stem cell treatment, due to “postnatal speech and growth retardation and limited mobility in all extremities for 19 Years.”
Abdul Azim was born prematurely, weighing 1600g. His delivery became complicated and during the birth Abdul Azim did not get enough oxygen, which resulted in his anoxic cerebral palsy.
Medical condition prior to Stem Cell Treatment (SCT) for Cerebral Palsy
Prior to stem cell treatment for CP, Patient Abdul Azim suffered from spastic quadriplegia. Due to problems in motor ability, he was confined to a wheelchair and was not able to stand or walk unassisted. With help however, he was able to move around somewhat. Abdul Azim's balance, even while seated, was very poor: he was not able to support his torso and needed constant support while sitting. While standing upright, his right foot could not reach the ground from his spastic musculature. His hand coordination was poor, especially at his wrists and he had problems rotating them. Abdul Azim’s speech was also very poor, he spoke very slowly and people had difficulties understanding what he was trying to say.
Stem Cell Treatment (SCT)
Neural stem cell injections via lumbar puncture, self stem cell activation, and proliferation therapy, physical therapy
Medical condition after Stem Cell Treatment (SCT) for Cerebral Palsy
While in the Hospital, Abdul Azim and his father worked very hard with the rehabilitation team in order to achieve every possible improvement following the stem cell implantations. After the stem cell treatment, his muscle tone has decreased (improved) in all limbs, which made his limbs much more flexible. Patient Abdul Azim’s muscle strength in his upper limbs increased, and he could now begin to lift his upper hands up to the level of his head.
Abdul Azim’s grip became firmer. His hand coordination improved, especially the wrist rotation. He was now able to bend his legs and walk with assistance. His walking is now much steadier, and the pace gradually improved. His torso and knee joints are straighter than before SCT. Unlike the condition before the treatment, his feet were soon able to touch the ground while standing. For the first time, without having the assistance of his caregiver, Abdul Azim became able to switch from lying down to sitting up by himself.
Patient Abdul Azim returned home to India with the likelihood of seeing further improvements with the help of a complete, tailored, physiotherapy plan and regime that Puhua International Hospital had provided for his benefit.
