Treatment Modalities
Modalities of Anti-Cancer Treatment at Beijing Puhua International Hospital
Immunotherapy (DC-CIK therapy/Stem Cell Therapy):
CIK (Cytokine Inductive Killer-cell) and DC (Dendritic Cell) biotherapy belongs to the category of (adoptive) stem cell therapy, which utilizes cultivated CIK and activated DC cells to fight cancer. This system exists naturally in the body, but the number of DC-CIK cells existing naturally in body is quite low, and the numbers are normally insufficient to succeed in defeating a malignancy. In DC-CIK therapy, DC-CIK cells are isolated for the patient's circulation, and then amplified at least 1,000 times, before being re-infused back into the patient’s body via IV infusion.
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM):
TCM can be a very effective supportive therapeutic used to support or augment other treatment modalities. The appropriate Chinese herbs have strong immune-potentiating effects, and can enhance the anti-tumor effects of traditional Western chemotherapy, radiation therapy, surgery, and/or other therapeutic modalities. Chinese herbs can be given orally, by IV infusion, or injected to the tumor feeding vessels assisted by DSA (Digital Subtraction Angiography).
Targeted therapy:
This is a type of anti-cancer therapy that blocks the growth of cancer cells by interfering with specific targeted molecules needed for carcinogenesis and tumor growth, rather than by simply interfering with the dividing cancer cells (such as with traditional chemotherapy). Targeted cancer therapies can be both more effective than current treatments and less harmful to normal cells.
Chemotherapy:
Based upon the overall evaluation of an individual, an optimized chemotherapy plan will be studied and carefully considered for each patient on a case-by-case, individualized basis.
Surgery:
Traditional surgical approaches are available at Beijing Puhua International Hospital, and the methods include the newer high-tech, minimally invasive and non-invasive approaches.
Cost:
The Integrative Oncology Team formulates a highly individualized treatment plans for each patient. Thus, the cost also varies between patients in terms of the treatment plan and the length of stay.
