NEUROSURGERYOverviewDirected by Dr. Xiaodi Han, the neurosurgical team at
Beijing Puhua International Hospital has extensive cumulative training and experience over a wide range of conditions and treatments, from observation for relatively minor neurological injuries (such as brain concussions) to the diagnosis and treatment of more advanced neurosurgical issues. The neurosurgical team has a special advantage over treating spinal cord injury, Parkinson’s disease, brain injury and brain tumor.DiagnosesThe following are the conditions that can be treated by our neurosurgical team:
Department Head(s)Dr. Han Xiaodi
Director of Neurosurgery Dr. Han (MD, PhD) is an outstanding Chinese neurosurgeon and biological scientist. Dr. Han has accumulated over 20 years experience in neurosurgery and the related field of applied biological research for neurological disease. Dr. Han has a high level of understanding regarding how biotechnology can help patients regain lost functions (especially in spinal cord injury (SCI). Dr. Han is very much focussed on what is in store for the future. The innovative methods of "Spinal Cord Reconstruction + Biological Therapy" has brought new hope for patients suffering from both partial and complete spinal cord injury. Dr. Ji Ying
From 1990 to 1992, Dr. Ji worked as a clinical researcher at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) in the USA, where he was engaged in clinical post-doctoral research in brain tumor photo-chemotherapy. From 1992 to 2011, he worked at the Penn State University’s Hershey Medical Center as an Associate Professor. In October 1996, he earned his ECFMG Certification. Dr. Ji developed a novel stereotactic, minimally invasive brain tumor photodynamic treatment (PDT) technology during that time. He also built the first brain tumor photo-chemotherapy clinical treatment platform during this time-frame. Dr. Ji has held the following prestigious posts: the Vice-Chairman of the Chinese Tumor Minimally Invasive Treatment Technology Innovation Strategic Alliances; Group Leader of the Neural Tumor Photodynamics Group of the Chinese Medical Association and Visiting Professor at Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine. Department NewsStem Cells Bring New Hope to SCI PatientsEvery year, there are thousands of patients who suffer from spinal cord injuries (SCI) in traffic accidents, accidental falls, and other unexpected events. Many of these people remain paralyzed thereafter: confined to wheel chairs for the rest of their lives.

Beijing Puhua International HospitalAround the world, stem cell research remains a controversial topic, mostly due to the use of fetal tissue in the production of stem cells. Dr. Xiaodi Han, the chief neurosurgeon at Tiantan Puhua Hospital, is one of the pioneers in bringing stem cell research and treatment to neurotrauma patients in China. In this interview, he opened on up why China’s stem cell industry has grown so much faster than those in Western countries, and why the conflict between safety and efficiency is an issue that continues to plague this field.
