HISTORY
Patient Orava was a 64-years-old when was admitted to Puhua International Hospital complaining of intermittent pain in the liver region for more than 3 years. In the 3 years previous, He experienced intermittent pain in this area without definitive diagnosis, which gradually developed into a persistent dull pain. Patient Orava was on pain medication in order to cope with the pain. In January 2008, he underwent an appendectomy at a local hospital. The post surgical pathological diagnosis was appendix carcinoma with liver metastasis and peritoneal metastasis. He did not receive chemotherapy after the operation. As the lesions developed, he received four rounds of chemotherapy treatments at a local hospital at the beginning of 2009.
Medical condition Pre stem cell treatment
In September and October 2009 Patient Orava received stem cell therapy plus chemotherapy, and plant anti-cancer therapy at Beijing Puhua International hospital. Upon admission, his mood and attitude was poor. Narcotic pain medication was required to manage the intermittent pain in his liver region. His appetite and sleeping quality was normal, as was his bowel and bladder functions.
When examined, his liver was palpable below the right costal margin, with a firm texture and tenderness. Tenderness and rebound tenderness could be found in the right upper quadrant and right lower quadrant of the abdomen. Tenderness could also be found around the umbilicus: there was no rebound tenderness. The abdomen felt soft without palpable mass.
Treatment
After admission, he received integrated treatment, which included stem cell treatments, plant-based Traditional Chinese Medicine as anti-cancer therapy, low-doses of chemotherapy, and Thymosin injection.
Medical Condition after Stem Cell Treatment (SCT)
Patient Orava’s symptoms improved after the treatment. The pain in the liver region was relieved, following treatment his doses of pain medications decreased from 6 - 7 tablets per day down to half a tablet per day. His strength improved and He felt better. He felt well enough to get involved in some sports. His sleeping and appetite were both improved. Comparing the PET/CT taken in September 2009 with the abdominal ultrasonography taken on October 21, 2009, the tumor lesions in the liver appeared fewer and smaller.
His overall response to treatment was satisfactory, and the patient was happy with his response.
